Fruit Growers Tasmania has launched Tasmanian Grown, a new export initiative that seeks to expand the global network and digital presence of local producers.

Presented at this year’s Asia Fruit Logistica in Bangkok, Tasmanian Grown is a digital platform that showcases Tasmanian fruits, nuts, and vegetables to the international market.

Peter Cornish, CEO of Fruit Growers Tasmania, said the platform aims to leverage the market recognition the region’s cherries, apples, onions, and carrots already receive globally.

“Buyers of Tasmanian cherries are often asking us what else is available from Tasmania – this website will showcase the fresh food that we grow, when it is available and how to buy it,” said Cornish.

“Importantly, it will give us a digital presence all day, every day.

The Australian government had previously contributed about $460,000 as part of the Small and Medium Enterprises Export Hubs Initiative to Fruit Growers Tasmania to establish an agri-food export hub for the region.

The Tasmanian state government and industry matched this funding.

Tim Ayres, assistant minister for trade and manufacturing, said it was excellent to see growers collaborate across the sector to help build new market connections.

“Our government will continue to support Australian horticulture and continue to work on expanding export opportunities,” said Ayres.

“It is a great example of Tasmania’s leading fruit, vegetable and nut growers working together, with the tremendous support of the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, the Tasmanian Fruit and Vegetable Export Facilitation Group and Fruit Growers Tasmania.”

Austrade partnered with producers at Asia Fruit Logistica 2022 by hosting an Australian Pavilion to showcase Australia’s horticulture capability.
