The York Park Alliance is calling on all Tasmanians to attend a crucial public protest this Saturday in Devonport to send an unequivocal message to the state government and the Upper House regarding the proposed Mac Point stadium.

The protest, which will take place at Haines Park this Saturday 29 November, from 0900 to 1030 comes just days before the crucial vote on the stadium project is scheduled to occur in the Tasmanian Legislative Council (Upper House).

“This stadium proposal is a message to all Tasmanians about our priorities,” said a spokesperson for the York Park Alliance.

“The massive cost of this project is funds that should be directed towards essential services like housing, health care and education, which are currently under severe strain across the state.

“The Upper House vote represents a final opportunity for our elected representatives to listen to the widespread public opposition.”

The Alliance emphasises that the protest is a non-partisan opportunity for citizens from all backgrounds and regions to demonstrate their opposition to the project’s funding model and priorities

Call to Action

The York Park Alliance urges all concerned citizens—on the North-West Coast and across Tasmania—to make their voices heard by attending the Devonport protest this Saturday.

“We implore all Tasmanians to share this event with friends and family. The size of this turnout will directly impact the decision being made in the Legislative Council next week, the spokesperson added.

Attendees are encouraged to bring signs and wear visible colours to show the strength of community feeling against the proposed stadium.
