Following sustained lobbying, the AFL has finally agreed to meet with Tasmanian MPs tomorrow to discuss its insistence on building the Macquarie Point stadium as a condition for the state’s new AFL team, the Tasmania Devils.

A delegation of crossbench and Greens representatives will present the case to AFL Chief Operating Officer Tom Harley to abandon the stadium in line with the majority of Tasmanians and the findings of the Tasmanian Planning Commission (TPC).

AFL COO Agrees to Stadium Meeting

Following months of Greens and crossbench MPs lobbying the AFL, finally the League has agreed to a meeting to discuss their insistence on building a stadium at Macquarie Point.

A delegation of State MPs will tomorrow meet with AFL COO Tom Harley at AFL House in Melbourne. This follows a letter signed by 18 Tasmanian MPs requesting such a meeting being sent to the AFL earlier this month.

The delegation attending the meeting will be Hon Cassy O’Connor MLC, Vica Bayley MHA, Peter George MHA and Kristie Johnston MHA.

On behalf of the overwhelming majority of Tasmanians who are opposed to the stadium, we will put the case squarely to the AFL about why they should abandon the Macquarie Point stadium as a condition for Tasmania finally getting our own AFL club.
