Alexander McKillop, a 23-year-old T36 Para Athlete from Margate in southern Tasmania and a St Aloysius Catholic College alumnus, is on the cusp of fulfilling a lifelong dream as he prepares to represent Australia at the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi.

The event, running from 27 September 2025 to 5 October 2025, marks a significant milestone in McKillop’s career, bringing him one step closer to his ultimate goal of competing at the Paralympic Games.

McKillop is scholarship recipient from the Tasmanian Institute of Sport and a member of the OVA Athletics Club and he has been competing in the 100m and 200m ambulant events since he was 14. His talent and dedication have already earned him a place on the podium at several international competitions, including the Melanesian Games (2018), the Arafura Games (2019), and the Oceania Athletics Championships (2022 and 2024).

This journey wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support of his coach, Rosemary “Rosie” Coleman. Rosie, who has volunteered her time as a coach for 32 years, has been McKillop’s mentor and support system for the past nine years. Due to his disability, Rosie’s presence at competitions is crucial, providing the assistance he needs to compete at his best.

While Athletics Australia is fully funding McKillop’s participation, he is spearheading a fundraising campaign to ensure his coach Rosie can join him.

The funds will help cover her costs to attend the pre-competition camp and cheer him on at the championships. McKillop’s campaign is a testament to the special bond they share and his gratitude for her dedication.

“This experience brings me closer to my dream to represent Australia at a Paralympic Games,” McKillop said.

“I’m so privileged to be selected for my first World Championship, and it would mean the world to me for Rosie to be there.”

McKillop’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of community support and the profound impact of a dedicated coach. His determination to succeed and his commitment to honoring those who have helped him along the way make him a true inspiration. .
