Media release – Tasmania Police, 14 August 2025
Extensive aerial searching today off the North East coast of Tasmania and Flinders Island has not located any sign of a light plane, or its occupants, reported missing almost two weeks ago.
Gregory Vaughan, 72, his partner Kim Worner, 66, and their family dog, left George Town airport about 12:.45 on Saturday, 2 August but the plane has not been sighted, or the Tasmanian couple heard from, since that day.
After challenging conditions restricted search efforts earlier this week, improved weather and visibility on Thursday enabled the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to conduct sweeps in the state’s North East and over the Furneaux group of islands, including Flinders Island.
The search area was determined on drift modelling.
Inspector Craig Fox said the helicopter sweeps did not reveal any wreckage or debris that could indicate the location of the plane.
He said Tasmania Police would review the search operations daily, with no decision made yet to suspend the search.
The missing plane is a small two-seater Bristell S-LSA in distinctive green colour.
If anyone has information that could assist the search, has seen a plane matching this description, or noticed anything such as unusual debris or wreckage on land or in the water, they should contact Tasmania Police on 131 444.
