Uncle Jim Everett

Australian Greens Senator Nick McKim has thanked Uncle Jim puralia meenamata Everett for his inspirational defence of country and the native forests of lutruwita/Tasmania.

“It is beyond absurd that Uncle Jim can be convicted of trespass on his own land,” Senator McKim said.

“Uncle Jim’s defence of his country against destructive logging has inspired many, including me.”

“He should be warmly thanked rather than convicted and fined.”

“Destroying Aboriginal heritage, logging species into extinction and heating the planet are the real crimes here, not defending country that was stolen from your people.”

Uncle Jim Everett puralia meenamatta trespass conviction will inspire more people to defend forests

“Jim is country and country is Jim. This wise old palawa is defying the plunderers while inspiring to action all those who want nature protected but think someone else should do it,” said Bob Brown.

“Forestry Tasmania leeches off the public purse to destroy everybody’s heritage and then they want more money when they’re slowed up. It owes the Tasmanian public compensation for both its subsidies and its destruction. Governments owe the Palawa community compensation for the decades-long destruction of forests. They are the real criminals,” said Bob Brown.

“The Styx Valley of the Giants ancient forests that palawa Elder Jim Everett puralia meenamatta was protecting suffered harrowing destruction that was only stalled due to non-violent protests like Jim’s stand. There are still giant eucalyptus in these remaining forests and vast areas of forests across lutruwita that can be protected if native forest logging would cease once and for all,” said Jenny Weber, Bob Brown Foundation Campaign Manager.

“Our foundation proudly stood on country in the Styx Valley forests and again in the Central Highlands of Tasmania with Jim Everett puralia meenamatta as he was protecting law in country. It is a critically important time in lutruwita’s history that leaders like Jim Everett puralia meenamatta is calling for an end to native forest logging. This call must be heard by Premier Rockliff and Anthony Albanese who can stop the destruction of forests and wildlife. Until they securely protect native forests, we will continue to defend forests with the palawa community,” said Jenny Weber.
