Hobart’s State Theatre will host a charity premier of the fantasy musical movie ‘Wicked‘, based on the famous story of ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’. The movie is the first of two movies which together will cover the entire story of the magical land of Oz. Directed by John Chu (‘Joy Luck Club’ and ‘Crazy Rich Asians’) the cast incudes Ariana Grande (as Galinda Upland), Cynthia Eriva (the wicked witch) and Geoff Blum (as the wizard) and will premiere in London on 24 November. The Hobart premiere will come only weeks later on Saturday 7 December.

The Tasmanian branch of Australians for Constitutional Monarchy (ACM) is using the gala event to raise funds for Tasmania’s County Women’s Association. The CWA in Tasmania began in 1936 when the first branch was opened at a meeting in Launceston Town Hall and has been going strong ever since; it is still very much an active organisation with 311 branches across the state. Interestingly Tasmania’s Country Women’s Association is Australia’s largest advocacy group for rural and regional Australia. Proceeds from the sale of tickets ($50) will be used to support branches in activities from the purchase of school equipment to supporting first line emergency workers in the field when floods and fires strike Tasmania. Both organisations welcome new members.

Australians for Constitutional Monarchy (Tas) is also active across Tasmania. Currently it is promoting the visit to Australia later this month of King Charles and Queen Camilla, providing details of dates and venues. It focuses on diplomacy, celebration and community engagement. The visit underscores the shared values and an interests of both nations. It also hosts a number of events, dinners; and fund-raisers in Tasmania.

Tickets for this event can be purchased online by scanning the QR code. The cost is $50 and dress is black tie/cocktail dress – so a great opportunity to show off your finery.
