Announcement – Latin American Film Festival, 22 October 2024

Latin American Film Festival 2024

The Latin American Film Festival LAFF, 2024, will be running in Hobart from next Friday, October 25 from 5pm in Rosny Barn.

The festival is an initiative of the Latin American embassies in Canberra and has been held throughout Australia for nearly 20 years.

Hobart had been organising the festival  since 2015.

The embassies deliver the films in Spanish and Portuguese, with English subtitles free of charge as their aim is to promote Hispanic culture throughout the country.

Our Hispanic speaking community in Tasmania is rapidly expanding, particularly in Hobart, and we want to continue to provide the opportunity for newcomers and the Hobart community to learn about and appreciate Hispanic and Latin American cultures through films.

This year, the Festival is being directed by the Cuban Embassy, which is joined by the embassies of Colombia and El Salvador as part of the coordinating troika. The Festival is also supported by the Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) which was established by the Australian Government in 2001 to enhance Australia’s economic, political and social relations with Latin America.
