New wages resource a big help for small employers
‘A cynic might suggest that the federal Government is deliberately trying to trip up small employing businesses by making complex, hurried, and in some cases seemingly unnecessary industrial regulations changes’, said Robert Mallett, CEO of the Tasmanian Small Business Council.
‘The reality is probably that small businesses and their representative bodies are still smarting from the lack of meaningful discussion and consultation before making these challenging changes.
‘COSBOA, with the help of the Government has developed a resource to assist the small business sector to navigate this modern minefield with some easy to read, well organised resources in a new website Small Business Peak.
‘It still takes some reading, still takes some interpretation but takes a practical and pragmatic approach to delivering information to time stretched employers and industry associations.
‘Inflammatory language like “Wage Theft” will make us all sit up and wonder whether an accidental fat finger on the wrong wage amount is going to land us in jail at the drop of a hat. The reality is that it is no different from the general understanding of every honest employer; it is illegal and immoral to underpay workers. A genuine mistake will be seen as such.
‘Clearer definitions of casual workers will ensure that we read the guidelines carefully but will also know that for the vast majority of people they have employed as casual, rarely do they choose to be a part time or full time employee; they love the wages and freedom it affords them.
Small Business Peak is a plain English employer (and employee) friendly way of quickly getting answers to confusing questions when you have the future of employees and their families in their hands. Employers are people and family people, we are small business people and the last thing we want to do is dud some of our closest friends and most valuable business resources.
Small Business Peak should be the most heavily bookmarked website on your machine.
