Richmond Bridge maintenance

We are working on the Richmond Bridge during May and June to maintain the historic landmark for future generations.

Work will take place Monday to Friday between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. Traffic will be managed by traffic control staff, who will prioritise school traffic during drop-off and pick-up times.

The bridge will be open to traffic at all times, however, there will be lane closures, reduced speed limits and delays of up to 8 minutes during working times.

There will also be reduced pedestrian access on and around the bridge and reduced parking near the work area while the work is completed, including outside of working hours.

The work includes the installation of new vibration monitoring sensors under the footpath, waterproofing footpaths and building a retaining wall that will support the footpath. We will also be removing a number of existing poplar trees and their roots as they pose a potential risk to the bridge in the longer term.

Replacement poplars have already been planted at a safer distance, and these fast-growing trees will contribute to the area’s scenic appearance in a relatively short time.

To ensure your safety and the safety of our workers, please follow any signs and instructions given by construction and traffic control staff.

We appreciate your patience while this work is completed.
