A new exhibition will feature the wonderful landscape of Norfolk Plains from Woolmer’s near Longford in northern Tasmania .
Luke Wagner has already had overwhelming praise for this, his new work, from the few who have already seen it.
This is his first solo exhibition for some time and the feedback is something that is extremely appreciated, especially after many long months alone thinking deeply and quietly observing.
Wagner’s work is uniquely Tasmanian and shows sides of Tasmania that reflect the beauty of the wild and vastly different landscapes it has to offer.
His paintings are always a beautiful surprise and these ones are no different, giving a feeling of being there and present in the painting. The art takes you with him on his personal journey.
Wagner lives and works as a career artist in Hobart, Tasmania. He has been passionately researching and painting the Tasmanian landscape and social history since 1994 with regular solo exhibitions, each exploring and depicting his most recent interests and fascinations.
A self-taught painter, he employs oil paints mixed with beeswax and then applied to linen with broad painting knives. He works with poetic and intuitive confidence, striving for universal images that cross cultural specificity.
Wagner has exhibited in Hobart, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and has been a finalist in events such as Hadley’s Art Prize, Tattersall’s Art Prize, Mosman, Lloyd Rees and the Glover Art Prizes. Consequently, his work is held in many well-regarded public and private collections.
The collection of paintings is exhibited in the delightful Lady Franklin Gallery ready for the opening this Saturday at 11 am.
A catalogue has been produced and can be sent to anybody who might like to see the show remotely. This is an exhibition not to be missed!
Saturday 6 August, 11:00, Lady Franklin Gallery, Lenah Valley.
