A performing arts precinct has taken out the Tasmanian Architecture Awards’ top honour, winning the state medal along with a string of other major awards.

The Helberg by Liminal Architecture with WOHA was awarded the Tasmanian Architectural Medal on Saturday 11 June, along with the Alan C Walker Award for Public Architecture, The Dirk Bolt Award for Urban Design, The Roy Sharrington Smith Award for Heritage, and The Alexander North Award for Interior Architecture.

The jury said the performing arts precinct expertly brought together heritage and contemporary elements, along with complex technical requirements. “The Hedberg is significant not only as a performing arts destination, but also for successfully stitching together its historical past and for its exceptional public access to the building,” the jury said.

Winner of the awards and named award will progress to the National Architecture Awards, to be announced on 3 November.
