MOBILE ANTARCTIC CLASSROOM FOR TASSIE SCHOOLS
School children in regional Tasmania are in for an icy treat this August.
No – it’s not an unseasonal cold blast or even an icy-pole! It is access to a wealth of information about Australia’s endeavours and activities in Antarctica courtesy of the Mawson’s Huts Foundation’s Mobile Antarctic Classroom.
The bus’s tour commences on 8 August – appropriately at the Penguin District School, and continues along the north-west and west coasts, through southern Tasmanian schools and then back north. Schools along the route are being notified of the itinerary and teachers are being informed as to what the students may discover and learn.
After touring regional Tasmania, the bus will return to Hobart for the Australian Antarctic Festival which will be held on Hobart’s waterfront from 24 to 28 August 2022.
Further regional touring by the mobile classroom is being planned for the next few months following the Australian Antarctic Festival.
The bus will arrive in Hobart on Tuesday 26 April for its final fit-out which will feature displays and hands-on experiences.
