History

Custom House was built between 1899 and 1903.

It was occupied by the Customs Department and several other Federal Government departments during much of the twentieth century.

The Australian Customs Service moved to new premises in 1990, and Custom House became part of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG).

It remains part of TMAG to this day.
