Tasmanians are being asked to connect with their communities by doing something they love as part of a campaign to recruit volunteers across Tasmania.

The campaign is supported by the Tasmanian Government as part of its plan for recovery and rebuilding post-COVID and to ensure Tasmanians continue to lend a hand to each other.

Volunteering Tasmania CEO Dr Lisa Schimanski said the specific impact of COVID restrictions in March–June 2020 was sharp and profound.

“Many volunteers were encouraged to stay home and stop volunteering for COVID-related public health reasons while other services usually delivered by volunteers were suspended or cancelled (for example local sporting competitions),” Dr Schimanski said.

“COVID restrictions, though relatively brief in Tasmania, shone a bright light on just how much Tasmanians appreciate being connected to each other, to our communities and to the activities we love.

“Those values—of connection, community and contribution—are what volunteering is all about.

“There is no requirement for volunteers to give more than they can and the best way to volunteer is to do something you love and pass your enthusiasm and enjoyment onto others in our community.”

The multi-faceted recruitment campaign includes volunteer videos, TV, radio and online advertising and showcases volunteers in our communities. The theme of the campaign is the spirit of connection that makes Tasmania and the people who live here special.
