Cranston Academy: Monster Zone is an animated horror-comedy film that features the voices of Jamie Bell and Ruby Rose.

It follows the story of Danny, a 15-year-old genius who is always coming up with crazy inventions. He is bullied for his intelligence and struggles to fit in at school. When he is unexpectedly offered a scholarship to Cranston Academy – a secret, prestigious boarding school for geniuses – Danny views it as a place where his intelligence will be recognised and where he will have a chance to finally fit in.

Cranston Academy is very much a family film. There is no hard thinking involved. The plot – which is reminiscent of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – is straightforward, and the characters are relatable.

The film is very well-made. The animation is flawless, and the voice acting is great. It is also very well-paced.

It reminded me a lot of the Netflix series, Stranger Things.

Cranston Academy was initially planned for release on 1 November 2019, but was postponed. It opened in Australian cinemas on 24 June this year.
