A volunteer team of 21 beach cleaners returned from Tasmania’s Wilderness World Heritage Area today, carrying an enormous haul of marine debris.

Team Clean have spent the past ten days removing 95,006 items of rubbish from the island’s most remote beaches.

“We all dream of beautiful coastlines that are free from toxic pollution,” said Team Clean coordinator Matt Dell.

“Unfortunately, every single day, a wave of destructive plastic rubbish washes onto Tasmania’s spectacular World Heritage beaches.”

“Team Clean is absolutely committed to protecting these special wild places. Our dedicated volunteer crew have just cleaned up, hand-counted and classified 95,006 items of marine debris from Tasmania’s most wild coastal ecosystems.”

Since 1999, Team Clean have removed 707,957 items of rubbish from the World Heritage Area.

Team Clean is an 100% non-profit volunteer expedition that has been dedicated to protecting Tasmania’s World Heritage beaches since 1999. The clean up is a powerful tool for public education, advocacy and behaviour change.
