‘Ward 5D’
By Don Defenderfer
I ought to write a book
But I can’t spell
I ought to sing an opera
But I can’t yell
I ought to tell some jokes but I’ve forgotten them all
I ought to play footy but I can’t throw a ball
So many things to do in life
So many things to try
So much to discover
Before they let you die.
I should learn how to bake a pie.
I should learn how to sing a song
I should learn to know right from wrong
I should learn to work in an office and sit at a tidy desk
I should learn how to write a report and get an A on a test
I could be better than best!
But I think I’ll just dream of walking in a soft forest
Dream of walking into the mountains where we first met
I’ll walk and walk and see where it leads
This is all I want, this is all I need.
This is all I believe.
I’m here in Ward 5D
Is there anyone who can hear me?
