Some places leave you silenced by the whole of nature.  South-west Tasmania is one of them, where wilderness is as close to nature as you can get.

What makes it ‘wilderness’ on the calmest day imaginable, looking like the most tranquil place on earth?

Par Avion have been flying visitors here for over three decades and know their business could spoil why they come. Upscale is not in their vocabulary. For them, the southwest starts where roads stop. Part of the beauty is that you might not get here when the Roaring Forties are in full force.

On a mid-July day – landing at Melaleuca airstrip, cruising to the narrows of Bathurst Harbour, and flying back to Hobart over Federation Peak – there was only room for reflection.
