Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein takes a break from talking about formal press conferences to put on one of his other hats, that of Minister for Tourism.

He talks about his own experience as a tourism operator, the current business environment and what the future might hold. One aspect is that businesses will need to have ‘COVID-ready’ plans when they reopen. Another is that intrastate tourism will need to come first, then interstate depending on the opening of borders and any disease outbreaks, while international tourism seems a long way off still.

“There are so many people who have worked so damn hard to build businesses and make Tasmania, as a product, as good as we possibly could. To then look at it in this position…it’s heartbreaking.”

“The world will be different for a while.”
