Sarah Lovell MLC Shadow Minister for Health
• Staff already working under extraordinary pressure hit again by Ferguson’s failure
• Staff working tirelessly as Health Minister looks the other way
• Royal Hobart Hospital at highest level of Code Yellow
Royal Hobart Hospital staff are once again being pushed to breaking point after an internal emergency has today been triggered.
Shadow Health Minister Sarah Lovell said the hospital had already been operating at escalation level four when the Code Yellow emergency was declared with ambulances ramped and patients unable to progress through the emergency department.
“Our thoughts go out to the staff at the Royal Hobart Hospital who were already working under extraordinarily trying circumstances when this internal emergency was triggered,” Ms Lovell said.
“They are working under terrible pressure, holding the hospital system together and it would completely fall apart without their efforts.
“Patients deserve much, much better than a Premier who has admitted the health and hospital system is inadequate and a Health Minister who has given up trying to address the health crisis.
“The proof in that is that Michael Ferguson is aware of the latest emergency at the hospital but is missing in action, refusing to update Tasmanians, especially those who might be seeking medical treatment.
“Hospital staff deserve much better than a Liberal Government which is happy to rely on their goodwill in keeping the system running while at the same time refusing to budge on an unfair and unreasonable wage offer for public servants.”
