Health forum: End offshore detention 1pm this Saturday 24 November, Sydney Town Hall

Speakers:
Prof Kerryn Phelps
 AM
Behrouz Boochani (via video link)
Dr Kean-Seng Lim (NSW AMA President)
Prof David Isaacs (RACP paediatrician & Nauru whistleblower)
Dr Karen Zwi ( RACP paediatrician & spokesperson)
Dr Barri Phatarfod (Doctors4Refugees)
Ian Rintoul (Refugee Action Coalition)

Join the Amnesty NSW Refugee Network for a discussion on the escalating health crisis in offshore detention. Many are now aware of the horrific state of healthcare in Nauru and Manus, particularly in terms of the dissociative resignation syndrome experienced by children. Whilst our government has claimed that all children and their families will be brought to Australia by the end of the year, this forum is a call to end offshore detention full stop.

Listen guys, UNHCR spends $4 a day per head per day on refugees in Lebanon, which is a surprisingly expensive place to live .. and winter temperatures in their plastic-sheeted humpies are hitting freezing at night as winter approaches. Australia spends well over $1,000. Give us all a break, guys.

The guys in Lebanon would die for the health services on Nauru and Manus. So would New Guineans … and Nauruans for that matter …

Some children and people in Nauru and Manus ARE dying. And they are Australia’s direct responsibility and under our duty of care; those in Lebanon aren’t.
