The Greens welcome the news that the people of Dover have won the battle against the Southwood Fibre wood chip mill.

Not even 24 hours after a meeting at a packed Huon Town Hall called for an end to the proposed project, the proponents have read the writing on the wall.

Franklin Greens MP Rosalie Woodruff strongly backed local groups which emerged spontaneously to fight for the marine environment, forests and their way of life.

The booming Dover tourism industry now knows it is not under threat. That means it can continue to create real, sustainable jobs for the people of the Huon.

This is a great result for people who fought so hard to defend their lifestyles and the places they love.

The Liberal government could have saved the community from this fight from day one. The Hodgman government now needs to declare this project dead.
