The government will scrap a planned increase to the Medicare levy after receiving almost $5 billion more in tax revenue than expected.
The 0.5 per cent levy increase, opposed in the Senate by Labor and The Greens, would have raised $8 billion to fund the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Treasurer Scott Morrison will tell an Australian Business Economists lunch today that rising company and personal income tax revenues have ensured “all planned expenditure on the NDIS will be able to be met in this year’s budget and beyond without any longer having to increase the Medicare levy” …
