Liberals are paying the consequences of cutting too deep
Despite the cuts to essential services, there are now more public servants than in 2014
869 FTEs employed in the last financial year
Treasurer paid millions to get rid of people and then rehired them
The Liberal Government’s extraordinary budget mismanagement has been exposed with the release of today’s Tasmanian State Service Annual Report.
“As a result of savage budget cuts in 2014 the Liberals spent $32 million on redundancy and workforce renewal payments and sacked health professionals and two teachers out of every school,” Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said.
“But after all that pain and untold damage on essential services, there are now more public servants employed today than when the Liberals came to Government.
“More than 869 FTEs were employed in the last financial year, meaning there are now 520 more public servants employed than in 2014.
“It is clear the Liberals cut too deep and have had to stem the bleeding in essential services in the run up to an election.
“It is not good financial management to embark on indiscriminate job cuts, pay your best and brightest to leave and then go on to recruit for the very same positions just a few years later.
“The only thing masking the Government’s extraordinary budget management is record increases in GST receipts.
“The Treasurer is a fraud and his claims of masterful budget repair are a sham.”
