Concerning procurement practices highlighted by Auditor General
Minister Gutwein must refer the matter to the Integrity Commission
Labor notes with deep concern the Auditor General’s report into procurement practices at the Glenorchy City Council.
“The findings of the audit highlight a severe lack of process and transparency in the expenditure of ratepayers’ money,” Shadow Minister for Local Government Madeleine Ogilvie said.
“The fact that more than $1 million of ratepayer funds could be spent with little to no disclosure or transparency is simply not good enough.
“The Auditor General found that the Council did not comply with its own procurement policies and the Local Government Act, which is unacceptable.
“Minister Gutwein has no choice but to refer this matter to the Integrity Commission for further investigation.
“He also needs to take urgent steps to guarantee that these practices are not occurring at other councils, and in the Liberal Government’s own departments.”
