The decision of the Federal Government to walk away from a Clean Energy Target is bitterly disappointing and a complete abrogation of our responsibility to tackle climate change.
It’s plainly obvious that the Government needs to give up its ideological obsession with coal and gas. But while other countries are fostering investment in renewables, Australia is taking backwards step after backwards step. For example just recently we saw the slashing of the Renewable Energy Target, shamefully supported by Labor.
The only real solution is to move as soon as possible towards zero net carbon emissions and one hundred per cent reliance on renewable energy. A strong Clean Energy Target would have been a good first step. Instead of acting in the public interest, however, the Government is taking its marching orders from a small group of climate vandals who are determined to ignore the dangers of climate change.
