Clinton Pryor Almost Here!
Clinton Pryor has almost made it!! He is still walking the final stretches to Canberra under the gaze of BBC tv.
His 5581 km, year long crowd funded walk from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific and then on to Canberra is complete.
Every one of the 7 million blistering steps Clinton was taken with the goal of nurturing aboriginal heritage and advancing the truth of the communities he has encountered. He has listened to elders from every community and country along the route.
Clinton’s patient feat of spiritual strength, empathy, cultural pride and physical endurance has occurred across yet another eventful year for First nation people.
Clinton’s walk began in September 2016 and lasted 360 days. This phase has marked progress for aborigines, despite challenges that include: further closures of Homeland services and facilities, the Kalgoorlie funeral of Elijah Doherty, review of the Palm Island discrimination case, still more disputed or discriminatory arrests, further deaths in Custody, debates over Colonial monuments and recovered evidence of the frontier wars. The pro referendum Uluru Convention unfurled in parallel with Treaty discussions. Australia’s own Copwatch has begun.
Clinton’s walk has attracted media attention from around the world. The penultimate phase of his march is being broadcast live by BBC tv today. Groups from remote aboriginal communities have gathered to support him.
Clinton’s aim is to raise awareness of the lived experience of aborigines across Australia in Canberra meetings with politicians and the Governor General this week.
On arrival, Clinton will celebrate quietly in Canberra with local elders.
He marks his vow to his father to protect his people on Father’s Day Sunday September 3rd with a public event: speeches and a Corroboree at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy near Old Parliament House. Thousands are expected.
