Dismissal of charges
The Tasmanian Government notes the dismissal of charges relating to the incident at the Ashley Youth Detention Centre (AYDC) last year.
The safety of all staff and residents at AYDC is of utmost priority and must remain at the centre of everything we do, and we welcome the resolution of this matter.
It was important that due process was followed. Had we publicly released footage of the incident as Labor repeatedly called for, this would have been compromised.
The Department will continue to work with staff to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities under the Act and ensure they have the appropriate training and support to fulfill their duties.
