The decade-long political battle over climate policy is set to reignite when the Finkel review into energy security is released tomorrow.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and state premiers will be briefed on the report’s findings at a COAG meeting in Hobart on Friday, but government conservatives are already lining up to oppose the review’s recommendations. In one of his now-regular appearances on Sydney’s 2GB yesterday, former prime minister Tony Abbott expressed “anxiety” over reports suggesting Finkel would recommend “70 per cent renewable energy by 2030” and a drop in coal’s share of energy generation from ”65 per cent to 20 per cent”.
