 Government still desperate to hide power station sale letter

Energy Minister Matthew Groom needs to commit to releasing the report he has received from the Energy Security Taskforce in full.

Shadow Energy Minister Scott Bacon said secrecy has been the hallmark of the Government’s response to the energy crisis.

“The Liberals have been desperate to cover up their role in Tasmania’s energy crisis,” Mr Bacon said.

“The Minister has received a report from the Energy Security Taskforce, he must commit to immediately releasing it in full.

“Everything should be put on the table, including the advice the Government received from Treasury in relation to the sale of the Tamar Valley Power Station.

“The Treasurer’s desperation to keep the now infamous letter secret is proof the Government has something to hide.

“We won’t properly learn from the mistakes made in the lead up to the energy crisis unless the Government is completely transparent.

“We need to do everything we can to make sure the same mistakes aren’t made again.

“The energy crisis cost taxpayers at least $140 million and sapped confidence and revenue from our biggest businesses.”
