Labor wants to hear best ideas from Lyons councils
The Federal Opposition wants to hear from local mayors and councillors their ideas on local infrastructure projects.
“Local governments are the work horses of our community, and it’s time we made sure their voices are heard in Canberra,” Brian Mitchell MP said.
“The federal budget announced in May left Tasmania off the map, and it’s just not good enough.”
Shadow minister for local government, Stephen Jones, has set a goal of meeting with every local council in Tasmania before the next election.
“Stephen Jones has already met with the Brighton and Sorell councils, and helped facilitate a regional discussion around inequality in Bridgewater, so he’s getting a good idea of what is going on for us.
“The next step is to make time with our other 11 councils to get their key needs on paper and on the agenda.
“We want the community’s ideas now so a Shorten Labor Government can start delivering better infrastructure and more jobs for the people of Lyons from day one.”
Lyons councils are encouraged to send their best ideas to localideas@australianlabor.com.au
