Gonski 2.0 – Transparent Federal School Funding
The Tasmanian Association of State School Organisations (TASSO) applauds the demise of the Commonwealth’s 27 separate school funding deals.
Ant Dry, TASSO President, states that “TASSO have always supported a needs based funding model that allows all students to reach their full potential and parents to have confidence in the quality of schools and staff.”
The finer details are still not clear as to how Tasmanian Government schools will benefit from this fairer and more transparent funding model. There is now surety and one formula going forward, no more special deals with particular educational institutions, but funding based on student need. This gives the Tasmanian Government a greater understanding of the level of federal funding they will receive and allows for forward financial planning to support all students.”
Gonski 2.0 is not perfect but it is a step in the right direction.
