Conski 2.0 bad for Tasmanian schoolkids

Posted on

Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambie today said she would vote for the Turnbull Government’s “Gonski 2.0” package.

Her vote could prove critical to this bad deal passing the Senate.

In parliament today Lyons MP Brian Mitchell said Senator Lambie should “hang her head in shame” saying she had sold Tassie school kids down the river.

Mr Mitchell says the vast majority of Tasmanian school children attend public and catholic schools and they are dudded under this deal.

Over the next two years there will be $85 million less for schools in Tasmania – $68 million of it from public schools.

But over the next 10 years it delivers $19 million extra for the exclusive Friends school.

“This is not Gonski for public schools – it’s Conski.

“Under this plan, 95% of Tasmanian schools will not reach their fair share of funding until 2027. Under Labor they would have reached it by 2019.”
