A memory of family …

Posted on

Every year at this time, I have gone to a memorial pool in the grounds of Collegiate College, on a day that marks yet another year since the Shoobridge family was ended tragically twenty years ago.

(In 1997 Peter Shoobridge killed his four daughters, and then killed himself.

Wendy was his estranged wife.

She has since died.

I lived close by, and as usual, saw and heard the girls on the back of Peter’s ute going past up the hill.

Woke up next morning to helicopters overhead.)

Wendy, the mother of the girls, commissioned this pool with Stephen Walker.

The result is a quiet contemplative place within the school.

It struck me last night as I spent some time there, that none of the present enrolment of students at the school, could know of the tragedy, as they had not been born.
