Young people are furious and ready to fight back!
Less than 48 hours after the Government announced its horrific agenda against young people, over 4000 people have signed the NUS petition to ‘Stop the War on Young People’.
“This is intergenerational warfare- young people will be the first to be locked out of the housing market, we face low wage growth, and now the government is shovelling more debt onto young people while big businesses get a 50 billion dollar tax break.” Said NUS President, Sophie Johnston. “This Government has once again failed young people and failed the Australian community, but we are ready to fight back and defeat these budget attacks just like we did in 2014.”
Yesterday, students protested at the Offices of the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull and the Education Minister, Simon Birmingham to let them know exactly what students think of their budget.
“If the Liberal government thought it would be easy to push through these attacks, they were wrong. Students have already shown their anger in protests in Sydney, Adelaide and Canberra, in comments on the petition and will be protesting on budget night in Melbourne. Meeting at 6pm at the Parliament House of Victoria, and marching to an undisclosed location, students will be taking up the fight against these attacks,” said NUS education officer, Anneke Demanuele.

“We are supposed to make this world better for future generations – but instead we are looking after the wealthy and expecting our children to pay over and over again. I cannot imagine what their financial futures will be like. We should be looking out for them!”

This appears to be an instance of intergenerational class warfare, whereby the tax avoiders (family trust holders, owners of companies registered in offshore tax havens, Self Managed Superannation Fund owners, etc.) bludge and exploit the next generation of contributors (to professions, trades, sciences and arts) whose parents are from similar modest backgrounds.
