TSBC welcomes State Government funding for small business employment of apprentices and trainees
The Tasmanian Small Business Council (TSBC) has welcomed the State Government’s announcement of an additional $2 million to pilot a small business grants program to assist small businesses to employ more apprentices and trainees.
TSBC Chairman, Geoff Fader, said the program will assist small business owners to offset the cost of employing their first or an additional apprentice.
“This is a welcome and well considered response from the State Government to maximize the numbers of apprentices in Tasmania” said Mr Fader.
“We look forward to working closely with Government to iron out the terms and conditions which will be applied to the funding. Simplicity will be the key to take up and resulting extra jobs”
TSBC also welcomed the allocation of an additional $50,000 in funding for the TSBC to help the Council communicate available grants and support services to small businesses through government programs.
Mr Fader said it is good that the Government recognises the economic contribution of small business with some one hundred thousand employees in Tasmania, and that small business provides what Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, Roger Jaensch MP, describes as “the backbone of the economy”.
“While this funding will allow us to better communicate government grants to our members, it will also open channels for our members to share their concerns and needs with us and in turn with the Government,” he said.
“Any improvements and growth in our small business sector is good for Tasmania.”
