Treasurer’s personal attacks continue

Posted on

 Government’s treatment of TasWater chair appalling
 Miles Hampton taken out of context

The Liberal Government should be condemned for its immature and antagonistic treatment of TasWater chairman Miles Hampton.

Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said the Government’s thuggish behaviour has reached a new low with the release of a video taking Mr Hampton out of context.

The full quote from Mr Hampton is “The Government’s plan if it’s put in place will mean cheaper water bills but what it will also mean because the government are planning to give $160 million to councils over that eight year period, it will mean reduced money for hospitals, it will mean reduced money for schools, reduced money for all essential services.” (Miles Hampton, ABC Mornings – 1/5/2017)

“The Treasurer is behaving like a schoolyard bully,” Mr Bacon said.

“Peter Gutwein has taken to personally attacking his opponents as he loses the argument around the takeover of TasWater.

“Miles Hampton is a respected chair and business person and deserves more respect from a government drunk on power.

“The Liberals’ thuggish tactics do not serve Tasmania well.

“It’s clear Peter Gutwein doesn’t like the way Mr Hampton has stood up to him in a professional manner.

“The TasWater chairman is using facts to combat the Treasurer’s aggressive exaggerations.

“It’s an unedifying chapter in the history state/local government relations in the state.”
