Good morning, and welcome to The Briefing.
It’s budget day, and outlets are scrambling for exclusives ahead of the annual lock-up.
The Australian is reporting that $6 billion will be stripped ($) from the social services budget and other areas to fill the NDIS funding gap, with Cabinet considering a 1 per cent Medicare levy surcharge on high-income earners to help fund the shortfall. Question Time will be back at 2pm, while Scott Morrison will give his second Treasurer’s Speech to the House at 7.30pm. It’s not yet known whether the words “jobs” and/or “growth” will make an appearance.
