The Foundations on which we build our national capabilities
Universities that provide advanced research and development, pure and applied are the foundations on which we build our national capabilities.
The possibilities described by university research, identify the contextual levels of ‘training for work’ and the intellectual challenges of education for the ‘expansion of minds.’
It is the task of our total education system, from mother’s first lesson, early child care and development, through schools, TAFE Skills, Tasmania & University, to provide such high levels of education, as a commitment to the nation’s future generations, to continually enrich these educational standards.
National corporate skills and knowledge can be gained, these values are incalculable in their contribution to the growth and productivity of our industrial and maritime capabilities.
Building Australian future shipping, agricultural, transport, logistics, hospitality, agricultural, education, health and renewable energy industries means, we also develop, powerful, research and development capabilities as a base for all industries and our national defence.
When Education policy is driven by short-term economic imperatives, we will falter in our ability to distinguish between ‘cost’ and long-term, human capital ‘investment’ and to take proper account of the deeper meaning and purpose of our universities’ endeavours.
