Mining giant Adani has postponed final approval of the Carmichael coal mine in central Queensland after senior members of the Palaszczuk state government spoke out against a planned $320 million “royalties holiday” for the mine.

Yesterday deputy premier Jackie Trad said Queensland Labor made an election commitment not to direct public money to the Carmichael mine, while reaffirming government support for the project. State ministers have refused to divulge details of a cabinet meeting last night other than to confirm the royalties decision was discussed.
