Opposition-mode Liberals have given up on governing

• Treasurer has given up selling his own Budget
• Labor is ready to govern
The desperation and panic of the Liberals is showing with their almost obsessive focus on Labor’s Budget Reply.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said Treasurer Peter Gutwein has spent every day since delivering his own Budget talking about Labor.
“It is perplexing that Mr Gutwein is more interested in what Labor is doing than selling his own Budget,” Mr Bacon said.
“While we welcome the attention, the obsessiveness is getting a bit weird.
“It seems the Liberals have given up on governing and want to go back to what they do best – opposition politics.
“The latest object of Mr Gutwein’s obsession is Labor’s policy to investigate the construction of a northern correctional facility.
“It is entirely reasonable and responsible that we would budget for a scoping study to understand what the facility should look like and where it should be best located.
“It is also not unusual to make an upfront provision for construction. That is no different to setting aside funds to purchase new Spirit of Tasmania vessels which will cost a lot more than the $180 million in the Budget.
“And I think people understand that you can’t staff something that is not built yet.
“If the Liberals have given up on governing then Labor is only too happy and ready to take over.”
