Labor Leader Rebecca White said a Labor Government will also address the high levels of sick leave among frontline emergency workers by supporting their mental and physical health and wellbeing.
“Our ambos, police and firies are our everyday heroes,” Labor Leader Rebecca White said.
“Day-in, day-out they deal with situations, with scenes, with pressures that most of us couldn’t cope with.
“Labor’s policy will include on-the-job mental health checks and promoting cultural change to empower emergency services personnel to come forward and seek help.
“In addition, Labor will provide better workplace support and training for our first responders where incidences of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are higher than in the general workforce.
“A Labor Government will work towards introducing presumptive PTSD legislation for emergency services workers, giving long overdue recognition to the trauma our first responders too often experience.”
