King Island Shipping Update

Posted on

TasPorts has reiterated that deliveries of fertiliser supplies to King Island will meet known customer demand in time for the seasonal break.
The TasPorts subsidiary Bass Island Lines is making three general cargo runs to Grassy this week and has contingencies in place to deliver all orders of fertiliser and general cargo.
Contingencies include the possible contracting of other vessels that have traditionally helped to meet the Island’s fertiliser needs during peak season, but have been absent this year.
I am confident that the forward schedule mapped out by Bass Island Lines will ensure timely delivery of fertiliser, feed, fuel, food and other goods to the Island.
I am in constant discussions with TasPorts on the subject of a new ship, which will become the long-term solution for King Island’s freight task including services to the mainland. I expect a full briefing on the latest progress on the international search for this ship by mid next week.
The Government is in close contact with the Island’s Beef Producers Group, the TFGA, the King Island Council and a range of other stakeholders and I expect to announce further details in the days ahead.
