 Shane Broad travelling to King Island this afternoon
 Dr Broad will hold crisis meetings over the ongoing freight situation
 Minister must finally take the situation seriously

Labor Braddon MP Shane Broad will travel to King Island today as the freight crisis deepens.

“I want to talk to King Island residents face to face,” Dr Broad said.

“The situation is way too serious to ignore and residents need to know that their elected representatives are listening.

“Mayor Duncan McFie’s plea must be heard and acted upon by the State Government.

“Reports today that the Navy is being considered as an option to relieve the backlog highlights how desperate people on King Island are becoming.

“I’ve asked Minister Hidding a series of questions in Parliament and each time he’s been completely dismissive of the issues raised.

“The State Government does not grasp how serious the situation is.

“The Minister had three years to make sure an adequate service was in place and he unfortunately failed.

“Over the next two days I’ll be meeting with the people affected by the mess and working with them to identify both short and long-term solutions.

“The island’s economy depends on a reliable freight service. This issue to too important to be ignored.”
