Jeremy Rockliff alone in cheering on education funding cut

Posted on

 Not even Tasmanian Liberal Senators are welcoming Malcolm Turnbull’s education funding package
 Tasmanian schools to be $84.4 million worse off over two years
 Jeremy Rockliff signed up to the full package

Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff is all alone in backing a funding model that would see Tasmanian schools $84.4 million worse off over the next two years.

Shadow Education Minister Michelle O’Byrne said not even Liberal Senators are backing in Malcolm Turnbull’s plan because they know it’s bad news for our schools.

“Jeremy Rockliff is the only education minister in Australia cheering on the Federal Government’s inferior funding commitment,” Ms O’Byrne said.

“The full Gonski agreement, which the Federal Liberals promised and Jeremy Rockliff signed up to, would have delivered an additional $100 million to Tasmanian schools over the next two years.

“Malcolm Turnbull’s package leaves Tasmanian schools $84.4 million worse off over just two years.

“Even Tasmanian Liberal Senators know we are being ripped off, that’s why they have gone to ground on the issue.

“It’s only Jeremy Rockliff, the person who should be fighting for more funding, who’s celebrating the second-rate offer.

“Minister Rockliff knows Tasmania deserves $100 million over two years, that’s why he committed to the full Gonski package. He’s not disputing that’s the deal he signed up to.”
