Government’s TasWater claims not backed up by modelling

Posted on

 No financial modelling to back up Government’s TasWater claims
 No modelling around debt or the work schedule
 Premier instead relying on political document

The Liberal Government is embarrassingly relying on a political PowerPoint presentation to back up its claims over TasWater.

Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said the Premier and Treasurer are unable to produce financial modelling to validate their statements.

“The document the Premier is relying on does not model borrowing costs or the interest that will be accrued under the Government’s plan,” Mr Bacon said.

“The chair of TasWater Miles Hampton has calculated the debt will be equivalent to $3000 per Tasmanian household.

“Where is the Government’s modelling that shows how much Tasmanians will pay in the long term for this political play?

“Where is the modelling to back up the Treasurer’s claim that TasWater’s schedule of work can be completed within five years?

“The document on the Premier’s website is not financial modelling.

“Tasmanians deserve to know the true cost of the Government’s plan and whether its claims can be backed up with evidence.”
