World champion and martial arts royalty hits Hobart
Tasmania will be treated to martial arts royalty this weekend as one of the world’s best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) black belts Craig Jones hits the state.
At just 25 years old, the 2015 No Gi World Champion boasts a martial arts resume that many could only dream about, and will be in Tasmania for the 29th April for a not-to-be-missed training seminar.
Hosted by Hobart Martial Arts Academy, it is a chance for everyone interested to join Jones as he prepares for upcoming competitions around the world.
Jones said the he was impressed with the standard of BJJ in Tasmania and was excited to work with some of the state’s best practitioners.
“BJJ has gone from strength to strength in Tasmania, with the state is producing some stand out competitors thanks to clubs like Hobart Martial Arts Academy,” Jones said.
HMAA owner, fellow BJJ black belt and head coach Gerry Young said it was a privilege to host such an event for Tasmania.
“Having Craig Jones at the club means we are in the privileged position to not only help one of Australia’s best competitors compete internationally, but to be taught by him as well,” he said.
Jones is an outstanding competitor and tactician, with wins most recently over Nathan Orchard and Darragh O’Connail during his semi final run in the Eddie Bravo International in Los Angeles. He won ADCC trials in Korea and Kazakhstan, NoGi world championships in 2015. Coming up he has the ADCC Worlds in Finland, Submission Underground in Portland and the Crest Submission Tournament in Finland.
Jones teaches BJJ full time out of Absolute St Kilda and Collingwood.
