United in Sourdough …

Posted on

Hundreds of churches across Tasmania are uniting this Easter weekend.

From Dover to King Island, from St Helens to Boat Harbour and everywhere in between including all the major centres of Tasmania, 111 churches from 11 denominations are Breaking Bread together.

From a single batch of sourdough hundreds of loaves bread are being supplied by Launceston artisan baker Manubread. The loaves will be delivered around the state in time for Easter weekend communion and Eucharist services, and masses.

This simple gesture expresses a fundamental unity whilst respecting diversity.

This event is being organised by City Networks. Their team leader Kelvin Smith says, “This is a valuable opportunity for us to lift our hearts in worship of our Lord Jesus Christ and celebrate the salvation that he has purchased for all of us. We are all about creating ways for churches to celebrate one another’s uniqueness as we partner together.”

The idea had its infancy February 2016 when 10 churches broke bread from the same batch, then in June 26 churches joined in.

It’s all very low key, under the radar, because the organisers want the focus to remain on the main thing: uniting the churches of Tasmania.
