Street Dog Charity wins prestigious animal welfare award

APRIL 26, 2017: Sri Lankan based NGO, Dogstar Foundation, has been announced as the 2017 winner of the CEVA Animal Welfare Charity Team of the Year Award.

The CEVA Award ceremony was held on April 5th in Birmingham, UK, and recognised the achievements of remarkable people from the farming, veterinary and charity industries from the UK, who go beyond the call of duty to better the lives of animals.

Dogstar Foundation were presented with their award on April 4 at a glittering ceremony at the Burlington Hotel in Birmingham, following a rigorous awards’ nominations’ process, which has seen a record number of nominations of the highest calibre.

Dogstar Foundation works closely with Sri Lankan communities and vets to provide sterilisations, vaccinations, veterinary treatment, and education leading to attitude change and the development of veterinary practice.

Since their inception in 2006, the Dogstar Foundation have spayed over 17,000 dogs and cats in Sri Lanka, and have provided over 33,000 vaccinations.

Dogstar Foundation Founders, Mark and Samantha Green accepted the Award on behalf of their Sri Lanka team, who are quickly becoming one of the most formidable animal welfare charities in Asia.

“Mark and I had the honour of collecting the award on behalf of the entire team, I could not be prouder of the amazing group of people who work for Dogstar and delighted our team’s commitment to animal welfare has been internationally recognised,” says Ms Green.

“In Sri Lanka, we have a huge problem with overpopulation and the suffering of animals – due to too many animals and not enough homes – so our program is completely focused on sterlising both owned and unowned dogs and cats,” she says.

The Dogstar Foundation team are launching an appeal to raise $10,000, which will allow the team to sterilise 500 animals in Kalpitiya. You can support this appeal, here:
